The bushfires in Australia are so big they're generating their own weather — 'pyrocumulonimbus' thunderstorms that can start more fires

seen this happen with DFES backburning, the moisture generated from the fire fighting appliances and heat from the fire causes massive clouds, lot of ash can cause lightning. The winds change and start feeding the fires to make them bigger and its just a mess.
