r/worldnews - France moves to ban mass live-shredding of male chicks - France has said it will ban the controversial but widespread practices of live-shredding male chicks and castrating piglets without anaesthesia, in a move cautiously welcomed by animal welfare activists.

What they don't tell you is that they suffocate them with carbon dioxide instead. It's a slow death but it's not as gruesome. Shredding is virtually instant, this is only done for optics and has nothing to do with what is best for the animals. So throw em in a barrel of water?
