Nearly half of all Russians think the sacrifices made under dictator Josef Stalin were justified

As a Russian there is no question if Stalin was a bloodthirsty maniac or not. The question however is: could somebody else have kept the country from falling apart? Because we were very close to defeat, most say the fall of Moscow or Leningrad would have been it.
