r/worldnews - The Australian embassy in Washington DC has reached out to the US State Department after an Australian reporter and cameraman were beaten by police outside the White House while covering a peaceful protest.

Australia's consulate shouldn't have needed help for this. Journalists here are civilians like everyone else, including police, and are thus subject to civilian courts. If it was a police officer doing it then they can either send a strongly-worded letter to the DCPD or sue them.
