An Australian man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for encouraging his wife's suicide, in a case believed to have set a global precedent

Would it be bad if he had said, I love you hunny, and if you want to kill yourself, that’s your decision and I’ll support you. Would this a) be encouragement and b) be wrong?
