Brexit-backing Tory MP Anne Marie Morris 'recorded saying 'N***** in the woodpile' during meeting'

I had no idea this was a saying outside of rural areas in America. Don't get me wrong I hate the saying and don't think it should be used but I do find it interesting that it has such a wide spread use. Is this common in the U.K.? Derogatory term for a black person.
