Google AI invents its own cryptographic algorithm; no one knows how it works

Forgive my stupidity... but the only difference between bob and Eve was that bob know an initial key? Everything that evolved from that initial secure message would potentially tell eve everything that bob could know? So doesnt the whole thing fall down on that weakness?
