Aren't ICBM's already traveling 7km/s? Correct me if I am wrong but this isn't new? no its not new. You are correct ICBMs hit hypersonic speeds but here is the key. They dont maneuver too well. You can't really change their direction much while they are flying at hypersonic speed.
